Why Do I Feel So Unsettled Lately?

Over the last 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of studying wellness through many different lenses.

I’ve travelled to India to work alongside some of the world’s most respected Ayurvedic practitioners.

I’ve spent decades teaching yoga, meditation and breathwork.

I’ve filmed wellness documentaries, authored courses and guided thousands of people through transformational retreats, workshops and coaching programs.

And throughout that journey, I’ve noticed something fascinating.

Physical symptoms and energetic states are rarely separate.

The woman experiencing digestive issues is often carrying chronic stress.

The woman struggling to sleep is often feeling overwhelmed, disconnected or unsafe.

The woman experiencing persistent fatigue is often giving her energy away to everyone except herself.

Again and again, I’ve witnessed the undeniable connection between how we feel emotionally, how we experience life energetically and what eventually shows up physically in the body.

Ancient yogic traditions understood this relationship thousands of years ago through the chakra system.

While modern science doesn’t measure chakras directly, it increasingly confirms something these traditions have taught for centuries:

Our nervous system, stress levels, emotions, environment and sense of safety profoundly influence our health.

Many women don’t come to me saying:

“My root chakra is out of balance.”

Instead they say:

  • I feel anxious all the time.
  • Ican’tswitch off.
  • I feel disconnected from myself.
  • Idon’tfeel safe in my own skin anymore.
  • My digestion feels off.
  • I feel likeI’msurviving rather than thriving.

What yogic traditions would describe as a Root Chakra imbalance often sounds remarkably similar.

And whether you view chakras as energy centres, symbolic maps of human experience or simply another lens through which to understand yourself, the message is the same:

When we feel grounded, supported and connected, the body responds very differently than when we feel overwhelmed, disconnected and unsafe.

Signs This Might Be You

Feeling anxious for no obvious reason

 Constant worry or overthinking

 Feeling disconnected from your body

 Digestive disturbances

 Poor sleep

 Hypervigilance or always feeling “on”

 Difficulty relaxing

 Feeling unsupported or alone

 Struggling to be present

Living mostly in your head rather than your body

What is the Root Chakra?

In yogic philosophy, the Root Chakra (Muladhara) is associated with:

  • Safety
  • Stability
  • Security
  • Belonging
  • Connection to the physical body

When balanced, people often feel:

  • Calm
  • Grounded
  • Present
  • Resilient

When out of balance, people may experience:

  • Anxiety
  • Hypervigilance
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Poor sleep
  • Digestive issues
  • Feeling disconnected
  • Constant worry
  • Difficulty relaxing

Many women over 40 are carrying enormous mental loads.

Caring for children.

Managing careers.

Supporting ageing parents.

Running households.

Looking after everyone except themselves.

The body often responds accordingly.

What The Research Shows

While science doesn’t measure chakras directly, it does tell us a great deal about nervous system regulation.

Research shows that chronic stress can:

  • Increase cortisol
  • Disrupt digestion
  • Alter the gut microbiome
  • Impact sleep quality
  • Increase inflammation
  • Affect appetite and cravings

In other words:

When the nervous system feels unsafe, the whole body feels it.

The Simple Grounding Practice I recommend most

One of the simplest practices I teach is getting your bare feet onto the earth.

Grass.

Sand.

Soil.

Stone.

Nature.

Why?

Because grounding naturally encourages:

  • Slower breathing
  • Reduced stressperception
  • Greater body awareness
  • Increased parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) activity
  • More present-moment awareness

Many women describe feeling calmer within minutes.

What You Can Do This Week

Try the Strong Calm Lean Grounding Challenge:

5 minutes barefoot on grass, sand or earth daily

 Morning sunlight exposure

Take a nature walk without your phone

Practice slow nasal breathing, expanding the diaphragm and focusing on a long exhale.

Sit quietly outside for five minutes each day, just focus on the breath, no gadgets, books or agenda, just be.

Notice what changes.

Not just physically.

Emotionally too.

The Strong Calm Lean Approach

Inside the Strong Calm Lean Method we don’t just focus on food, exercise and body composition.

We explore the whole person.

Because thriving physically often begins long before calories, macros or workouts.

It begins with connection.

Connection to your body.

Connection to your nervous system.

Connection to your emotions.

Connection to your energy.

When women begin to understand what their body is communicating, everything starts to change.

They stop fighting themselves.

They start working with themselves.

And often that’s when they finally begin to feel stronger, calmer and leaner.

One of the most powerful weeks inside the program is our Chakra Healing Module, where we explore the seven chakras as a practical framework for understanding the relationship between emotional wellbeing, energetic balance and physical health.

You’ll learn:

  • Yoga postures to support each chakra
  • Breathwork techniques
  • Meditation practices
  • Sound and vibration tools
  • Journalling and self-reflection exercises
  • Practical daily rituals to create more balance and awareness

Whether you approach the chakras as an energetic system, a personal growth framework or simply a powerful self-awareness tool, many women discover insights that help them reconnect with themselves in ways they never expected.

Because when you feel grounded emotionally and energetically, it becomes far easier to thrive physically.

And that’s what the Strong Calm Lean Method has always been about.

Not becoming a smaller version of yourself.

Becoming a stronger, happier and more resilient version of yourself.

If you’ve been feeling anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed or simply not like yourself lately, I’d love to help.
